Wisconsin Premiere "The Good Nazi"

As part of the UWEC Earth Science Seminar Series “The Good Nazi” will be presented in the Woodland Theater of W.R. Davies Student Center, Friday, Sept. 28, 4 p.m. The film is a 50 minute television documentary and chronicles the scientific work of a joint US-Canadian-Israeli-Lithuanian research in July, 2017 on a site, HKP 562, a Nazi labor camp on the outskirts of Vilnius where the largest number of Vilna Ghetto Jews survived thanks to the efforts of a compassionate Nazi Officer, Major Karl Plagge. Plagge is portrayed as "The Good Nazi," a sort of Nazi Oskar Schindler who did what he could to rescue Jews from the Vilna Ghetto and keep them alive. In the film, you will see our UWEC students and faculty Harry Jol as well as our partners searching for killing trenches, mass graves and malinas (hiding places in the living quarters) in Vilnius, Lithuania. The student-faculty research projects highlighted in the documentary were funded by International Fellows Program (IFP) and Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) as well as UWEC alumni and other project sponsors. Questions? Alumni office 715-836-3266.
